leukemoid reaction [Gk, leukos + eidos, form; L, re, again, agere, to act] , a clinical syndrome resembling leukemia in which the white blood cell count is elevated in response to an allergy, inflammatory disease, infection, poison, hemorrhage, burn, or severe physical stress. Compare leukemia.
