lead encephalopathy /led/ [AS, led + Gk, enkephalos, brain, pathos, disease] , a condition of brain structure and function resulting from lead poisoning, including exposure to tetraethyl lead. Children are commonly afflicted after eating chips of lead-based paints. The untreated disorder is characterized by delirium, convulsions, mania, cortical blindness, and coma.
