Kyasanur Forest disease, a flavovirus infection transmitted by the bite of a tick, Haemophysalis spinigera, that is harbored by shrews and other forest animals in western tropical India. Characteristics of the infection include fever, headache, muscle ache, cough, abdominal and eye pain, and photophobia. Treatment is symptomatic. A vaccine is used in India. Also called monkey disease.
