ischiofemoral ligament

ischiofemoral ligament, a ligament that reinforces the posterior aspect of the fibrous membrane that encloses the hip. It is attached medially to the ischium, just posteroinferior to the acetabulum, and laterally to the ischial tuberosity deep to the iliofemoral ligament. It helps to stabilize the hip joint and reduce the amount of muscle energy required to maintain a standing position. See also iliofemoral ligament, pubofemoral ligament.
