intracoronal retainer /-kôr″ənəl/ [L, intra + corona, crown] , 1. a cast restoration, such as an inlay, that lies largely within the contour of the tooth crown. The retention to displacement is developed between the restoration and the walls of the prepared tooth cavity. 2. a direct retainer used in the construction of removable partial dentures. It consists of a female portion within the coronal segment of the crown of an abutment and a male portion attached to the denture proper. See also inlay.
