anal character, (in psychoanalysis) a type of personality exhibiting patterns of behavior originating in the anal stage of childhood. It is characterized by extreme orderliness, obstinacy, perfectionism, cleanliness, punctuality, and miserliness, or their extreme opposites. Also called anal personality.
