internal jugular vein

internal jugular vein, one of a pair of veins in the neck. Each vein collects blood from one side of the brain, the face, and the neck, and both unite with the subclavian vein to form the brachiocephalic vein. Each internal jugular vein is continuous with the sigmoid in the posterior part of the jugular foramen at the base of the skull. Compare external jugular vein.
