anadipsia /an′ədip″sē·ə/ [Gk, ana + dipsa, thirst] , extreme thirst, often occurring in the manic phase of bipolar disorder. The condition is the result of dehydration caused by the excessive perspiration, electrolyte imbalance, continuous urination, and relentless physical activity produced by the intense excitement characteristic of the manic phase.
