induced vomiting [L, inducere, to lead in; vomere, to vomit] , vomiting produced by administration of an emetic or by insertion of a finger or blunt instrument into the throat. Vomiting may be medically indicated in cases of ingestion of noncaustic poisons but may also be self-induced by patients afflicted with bulimia. See also bulimia.
