hyperlipidemia type IV

hyperlipidemia type IV, a relatively common form of hyperlipoproteinemia characterized by a slight elevation in cholesterol levels, a moderate elevation of triglyceride levels, and an elevation of the triglyceride carrier protein (very-low-density lipoprotein) level. It is sometimes familial and is associated with an increased risk for coronary atherosclerosis. The condition is controlled with weight reduction, a low-carbohydrate diet, drugs, niacin, and avoidance of alcohol. Also called endogenous hypertriglyceridemia.
