hydrosalpinx /hī′drōsal″pingks/ [Gk, hydor + salpinx, tube] , an abnormal condition of the fallopian tube in which it is cystically enlarged and filled with clear fluid. It is the result of an infection that has previously occluded the tube at both ends. The purulent material produced by the infection undergoes liquefaction during resolution of the acute phase of the inflammatory process.
