aminocaproic acid /amē′nōkəprō″ik, am′inō-/ , a hemostatic agent. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed to stop excessive bleeding that results from hyperfibrinolysis. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Active intravascular coagulation prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the most serious adverse reactions are thrombosis and hypotension. Inhibition of ejaculation, nasal congestion, diarrhea, and allergic reactions also may occur.
