hydrALAZINE hydrochloride /hīdral″əzēn/ , a vasodilator used in hypertension. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of moderate to severe hypertension, primary pulmonary hypertension, and hypertension of preeclampsia, and during the treatment of congestive heart failure. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Coronary artery disease, mitral valvular rheumatic heart disease, or known sensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the most serious adverse effects are angina pectoris, palpitations, tachycardia, hypotension, anorexia, tremors, blood dyscrasias, depression, nausea, peripheral neuritis, and a drug-induced lupuslike syndrome.
