Hunter’s syndrome

Hunter’s syndrome [Charles Hunter, Canadian physician, 1873–1955; Gk, syn, together, dromos, course] , a hereditary defect in mucopolysaccharide metabolism affecting only males, characterized by dwarfism, kyphosis, gargoylism, and cognitive impairment. It is transmitted as an X-linked recessive trait. Females who carry the gene can be identified by biochemical tests. Also called MPS II, X-linked mucopolysaccharidosis. See also mucopolysaccharidosis.
