human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I)

human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I), a type C oncovirus of worldwide distribution, but most common in Japan, Africa, and the Caribbean basin, having an affinity for CD4 T lymphocytes; it causes chronic infection and is associated with adult T-cell leukemia and lymphoma and tropical spastic paraparesis. Also called human T-cell leukemia virus type I.
