ameboid movement

ameboid movement /əmē″boid/ [Gk, amoibe, ameba, eidos, form; L, movere, to move] , the ameba-like movement of certain types of body cells that can migrate through tissues, such as leukocytes. The movement generally consists of extension of a portion of the plasma membrane, probably caused by internal rearrangement or movement of the cytoskeleton. See also diapedesis.
