hemadsorption /hē′madsôrp″shən, hem′-/ [Gk, haima, blood; L, ad, to, sorbere, to swallow] , the adherence of red blood cells to other cells or surfaces; a process in which a substance or an agent, such as certain viruses and bacilli, adheres to the surface of an erythrocyte. The process occurs naturally, or it may be induced for laboratory identification of bacteriological specimens.
