gingival line [L, gingiva, gum, linea] , the scalloped line formed by the edge of the unattached gum tissue at the margin of the soft tissues beside the teeth. The line is called marginal gingiva when viewed labially, buccally, or lingually. Between the teeth in the interproximal area, the line is called interdental gingiva or interdental papilla.
