granulation tissue

granulation tissue /gran′yəlā″shən/ [L, granulum, little grain] , any soft pink fleshy projections that form during the healing process in a wound that does not heal by primary intention. The tissue consists of many capillaries surrounded by fibrous collagen. Overgrowth of granulation tissue causes proud flesh growing above the skin. See also pyogenic granuloma.
