Fukuyama type congenital muscular dystrophy /fo̅o̅′ko̅o̅ya′ma/ [Yukio Fukuyama, 20th-century Japanese physician] , an autosomal-recessive type of muscular dystrophy evident in infancy. Muscle abnormalities resemble those of Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy, and patients are cognitively impaired with microgyria and other cerebral abnormalities. Also called Fukuyama’s syndrome.
