fructosamine test /fro͝oktōs′əmēn/ , determination of the glycated albumin level by measuring the reduction of nitroblue tetrazolium to purple under alkaline conditions, used as an index of the average glycemic state over the preceding 2 to 3 weeks. It is not widely used; however, it is useful when glycosylated hemoglobin (hemoglobin A1C) cannot be reliably measured.
