Friedländer’s pneumonia [Carl Friedländer; Gk, pneumon, lung] , a form of bronchopneumonia with a high mortality rate, particularly among older patients, caused by the bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae. The pneumonic patches tend to become confluent, and those who survive may experience pulmonary abscesses and necrosis.
