fracture of clavicle

fracture of clavicle [L, frangere + clavicula, little key] , a break in the long bone of the shoulder girdle. It is typically accompanied by pain, swelling, and a protuberance and depression over the site of the injury. The patient usually supports the arm on the injured side at the elbow. Treatment generally involves application of a clavicle strap or a figure-eight bandage.
