floxuridine /floksyo͝or″ədēn/ , an antineoplastic agent. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of metastases to the liver from colon, stomach, and other GI cancers. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Bone marrow depression, infection, poor nutritional state, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects leading to drug discontinuation are severe depression of the bone marrow; acute GI disturbances, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomatitis; and myocardial ischemia. Alopecia and dermatitis commonly occur.
