flexor digitorum superficialis

flexor digitorum superficialis, the largest superficial muscle of the forearm, lying in the second of four layers. The muscle flexes the second phalanx of each finger and, by continued action, the hand. Also called flexor digitorum sublimis. Compare flexor carpi radialis, flexor carpi ulnaris, palmaris longus, pronator teres.
