ethaverine hydrochloride /eth′əver″ēn/ , a smooth muscle relaxant. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed to relieve spasm of the GI or genitourinary tract, arterial vasospasm, cerebral insufficiency, and peripheral and cerebrovascular insufficiency. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Liver disease, atrioventricular dissociation, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. It is prescribed with caution to patients who have glaucoma. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are hypotension, abdominal distress, cardiac arrhythmia, and headache.
