encephalography /ensef′əlog″rəfē/ , (Obsolete) a procedure no longer performed that resulted in radiographic delineation of the structures of the brain containing fluid after the cerebrospinal fluid was withdrawn and replaced by a gas, such as air, helium, or oxygen. The procedure was used mainly for indicating the site of cerebrospinal fluid obstruction in hydrocephalus or structural abnormalities of the posterior fossa.
