agranulocytosis /āgran′yo͝olō′sītō″sis/ , severe reduction in the number of granulocytic leukocytes (basophils, eosinophils, and neutrophils). Reduction in polymorphonuclear neutrophils is neutrophilia, whereby the body is severely depleted in its ability to defend itself from bacterial infection.
