dorzolamide hydrochloride

dorzolamide hydrochloride /dorzo′lämīd/ , a carbonic acid anhydrase inhibitor used in treatment of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension, administered topically to the conjunctiva as the hydrochloride salt. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of glaucoma. It reduces intraocular pressure by decreasing the rate of fluid production. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: It should not be given to patients wearing soft contact lenses or those with allergy to dorzolamide or its components or related substances. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: The side effects most often reported include ocular burning, stinging or discomfort following use; tearing; blurred vision; or light sensitivity.
