displaced fracture

displaced fracture /displāst/ [Fr, deplacement, to remove] , a traumatic bone break in which two ends of a fractured bone are separated and out of their normal positions. The ends may pierce surrounding skin, as in a compound fracture, or may be contained within the skin, as in a closed fracture. These types of fractures usually require surgical intervention to restore the correct alignment of bony parts and for best postinjury outcome.
