Diphyllobothrium /dəfil′ōboth″rē·əm/ [Gk, di, twice, phyllon, leaf, bothrion, pit] , a genus of large parasitic intestinal flatworms having a scolex with two slitlike grooves. The species that most often infects humans is Diphyllobothrium latum, a giant freshwater fish tapeworm of North America and Europe. See also fish tapeworm infection.
