dicumarol /dīkyo̅o̅″mərol/ , an anticoagulant coumarin derivative. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for the prophylaxis and treatment of thrombosis and embolism. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Risk of hemorrhage, peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse reactions are GI disturbances, nausea, bleeding, and diarrhea.
