desquamative gingivitis

desquamative gingivitis /deskwam″ətiv/ , a gingival inflammation characterized by peeling of the epithelium. In its chronic state it is most frequently associated with the hormonal changes of menopause. It may also be caused by biological stress, such as trauma to the epithelium, or certain reactions to medications. Compare eruptive gingivitis.
