dens in dente /den″tə/ , an anomaly of the teeth, found chiefly in the maxillary lateral incisors and characterized by invagination of the enamel. The condition causes a radiographic image suggestive of a tooth within a tooth. Also called dens invaginatus, gestant odontoma.
