darunavir, an antiretroviral drug. ▪ INDICATIONS: This drug is used to inhibit HIV-1 protease by preventing maturation of the virus. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Adverse effects of this drug include dizziness, somnolence, anorexia, dry mouth, nephrolithiasis, rash, pain, asthenia, hyperlipidemia, and lipodystrophy. Life-threatening side effects include insulin-resistant hyperglycemia and ketoacidosis. Common side effects include headache, insomnia, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
