dance/movement therapy (DMT), 1. (in psychology), a movement-based therapeutic technique that aids in release of expressions or feelings and aids in promoting feeling and awareness. It is an intimate and powerful medium for therapy because it is a direct expression of the mind and body. 2. (in occupational therapy) a creative art therapy that can be conducted individually or in groups to facilitate emotional, cognitive, and physical integration. Goals may include promotion of body awareness or improvements in self-control and in the communication of emotions.
